What is your story? I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. Maybe because I’m in the sixth month since I left my full-time job and began working from home. Maybe because it’s the end of summer break with my kids and we are beginning a new school year. Maybe it’s because my company’s convention is just over a month away. It has me thinking. I’m not where I want to be in my story yet. I’m still writing it.
Did you know we ALL have the power to WRITE our own story? It doesn’t have to write itself. If what you are writing today isn’t going where you want it to go, start re-writing it. You can’t erase what’s already happened, but you can change the plot. The future chapters haven’t happened yet
I recently heard this quote of wisdom, “depression is a sign you are living in the past, anxiety is a sign you are living in the future, and peace is a sign you are living in the present.” So why not choose the present and write the future of your dreams by being? No, we can’t control it all. Only God can do that. But you can choose to be. Just be present and say YES. Yes to what you really want. Yes to what lights you up. Yes to what truly sets your soul on fire. This isn’t what you have always done or think you should do. Say no to those things if it’s not writing the story you want.
Think you will always be twenty pounds overweight because your story is eating to cope with stress? Your story is that you hate exercising? Your story is that you are just a person who is twenty pounds overweight? Rewrite it.
Think you will always be broke? Your story is you will always live paycheck to paycheck? You will always be in debt? Over drafting your account is always gonna be your normal? Rewrite it.
Make specific, actionable goals. You can’t wish your story will happen. You have to be specific and take action. Want to make $10K a month? Get mentoring from those who have done it. Want to lose fifty pounds? Don’t just set a goal to eat breakfast. Set a goal to eat egg whites, whole wheat toast, and fresh fruit five days per week. See the difference?
Put what you want on a vision board. If it’s financial security, include a picture of that vacation spot you can’t wait to go on. If it’s weight loss, add a picture of something you want to do or achieve when you are at your goal weight (I once had a client who wanted to go tandem skydiving but had to meet the weight requirement of less than 250 lbs first). If you don’t know what that is, check it out here for how one works and why. Look at it every morning and every night before you go to bed. And take action to get these things done.
Use essential oils. Sounds crazy right? But aroma has a powerful effect on our limbic system (i.e. brain), thus eliciting positive or negative emotions and feelings. Imagine a time when you could smell chocolate chip cookies baking. Now imagine at time when you were driving past agarbage dump site. Big difference, right? Change, especially big change, can require an enormous emotional shift. Essential oils have specific emotional benefits to help us glide through such times with ease. Lemongrass, the oil of cleansing, and peppermint, the oil of a buoyant heart, are particularly good in these cases. Lemongrass assists individuals in easily letting go of old, limiting beliefs and toxic energies. When in an individual uses peppermint, it is easier for them to be reminded that life can be happy and there is nothing to fear. Pretty cool, huh? You aren’t stuck. Rewrite your story beginning today. Believe it is possible and go with the flow when the twists and turns of life inevitably happen.
